The Canadian short story writer Alice Munroe won the nobel prize for literature last week. Aged 82, she had announced her retirement during the year, but it must be said that writers can rarely be trusted on this count as they cannot see the future. It’s not usual for Nobel Prize winners to abandon their craft.
